DualSense Edge Stick Drift Guide
Stick drift on the DualSense Edge is when your character or camera moves on its own while you aren't touching the stick. It's the most common failure on the Edge, and the good news is that the Edge was designed to fix it: its stick modules are user-replaceable. This guide explains why drift happens, what you can try first, and how to end it permanently.
What causes stick drift?
The stock Edge modules measure stick position with potentiometers: a small wiper rubbing across a carbon track. Every movement wears that track a little. Over months of play the worn track reports positions that aren't real, and the controller reads a small push when the stick is centered. That's drift. Dust and debris inside the module make it worse.
Because the wear is physical, drift from potentiometer sticks always comes back. Cleaning and recalibrating can hide it for a while, but they can't restore a worn carbon track.
Quick checks before you replace anything
- Confirm it's the stick. Watch an on-screen cursor or a game's camera with the controller set down. If it moves on its own, it's drift.
- Swap the modules left and right. On the Edge you can move a module to the other side. If the drift follows the module, the module is the problem.
- Raise the dead zone. The Edge's custom profiles let you increase the stick dead zone. This hides mild drift, at the cost of a less responsive stick.
- Recalibrate. A fresh calibration can recenter a module that has drifted slightly, but it won't fix a worn track.
The permanent fix: TMR modules
A TMR (tunneling magnetoresistance) module reads stick position with a magnet and a magnetic sensor. Nothing rubs, so there's no carbon track to wear out, and drift caused by wear can't develop. Our ZeroStick TMR DualSense Edge Module uses K-Silver TMR sensors, ships pre-calibrated and tested, and is a direct drop-in replacement for the stock Edge module.
Prefer to keep your own modules? With our Mail-in TMR Service we pay shipping both ways and upgrade your modules within 48 hours of receiving them.
Every ZeroStick stick is backed by our 5-year stick warranty.
How to fix Edge drift, step by step
- Order a TMR module for each drifting side (or use the mail-in service).
- Swap the module in about a minute. No tools or soldering needed. See the installation guide.
- Play. Modules arrive calibrated. If you ever want to re-tune one, see testing and calibration.
